The APSA Medal
The APSA medal is our Association’s highest award to recognise excellence and lasting contribution to the pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacy practice and/or pharmacy and pharmaceutical science education. The award is made on the basis of quality and impact of the nominee’s research and education, as well as the nominee’s significant contribution to the Association, such as:
- Contribution/impact to the strategic direction of APSA
- Role in promoting APSA nationally and internationally
- Positions held within APSA and/or its conferences
- Other related and relevant evidence demonstrating a lasting contribution to APSA
The winner of the medal is selected from nominations by the APSA Council. The APSA medal is presented at the APSA Annual Conference, and the APSA medallist is invited to give the APSA Medal Oration.
Emerging Leader Award
To recognise and highlight the research contributions of emerging leaders in the disciplines of pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacy practice, and pharmacy and pharmaceutical science education, APSA includes an Emerging Leader Symposium within the conference program. In order to be eligible for the APSA Emerging Leader Award, individuals must be a financial member prior to the conference abstract submission deadline and be the lead and presenting author of an oral presentation. Nominations will be sought with abstract submission.
Student Prizes
Several student prizes are awarded at the Annual Conference in recognition of excellence amongst Honours and higher degree student members. In order to be eligible for an APSA student prize, individuals must be a financial member prior to the conference abstract submission deadline and be the lead and presenting author of an oral or poster presentation.
Student Travel Grants
In recognition of the valuable contribution of our student members, APSA provides travel grants to support student attendance at the Annual Conference. To be eligible for a travel grant, students must be financial members prior to the conference abstract submission deadline and must be presenting an abstract at the Annual Conference. To apply, students must complete and submit an APSA Travel Grant Application Form by the conference earlybird registration deadline. At the 2022 APSA Annual General Meeting, the APSA membership decided that students who are successful in their application for a travel grant will be reimbursed 30% of the cost of a reasonable airfare from their nearest capital city to the conference city. Reasonable airfare costs are determined by the APSA treasurer from the websites of major airlines, on or around the date of the conference earlybird registration deadline.
APSA Research Grant Scheme
APSA is pleased to offer research funding through the APSA Research Grant Scheme to support original research in the disciplines of pharmaceutical science, pharmacy practice and/or pharmacy and pharmaceutical science education. The purpose of the grant is specifically focussed on contribution to the career trajectory of APSA members and/or provision of support to individuals or teams of individuals transitioning to research independence.
Annual grants of up to $5,000 (AUD) to support an original research project will be made available by APSA. Additional funding support is also required by the applicant’s host institution(s), such that a maximum of 50% of project costs (up to $5,000) will be provided by APSA. The funding period will be for a maximum of 12 months and the successful applicant(s) will present the outcomes of the funded work at the next APSA Annual Conference. Additionally, a report outlining the research outcomes, including project expenditure, will be submitted to the APSA Council at the end of the 12-month funding period.
Funding is limited to full financial members of APSA; this applies to all members of the investigator team, however additional non-members may be included as Associate Investigators where necessary. The lead investigator must have been a financial member of APSA for at least 12 months prior to the grant submission deadline.
Call for applications will be distributed to members via email.
